R U A Watchman

I came across a great quote. It is rare because it is as true today as it is in any
generation. I thought I’d share it with you because, a) it is true; and b) it will
make you think. It says, “In every age the Lord has had His watchmen, who
have borne a faithful testimony to the generation in which they lived. These
sentinels gave the message of warning; and when they were called to lay off
their armour, others took up the work” AA 11.

Some will ask, “Who are these watchmen?” If you have to ask, maybe you’re
not one of them. But would you like to be? Because that would be one of
the most noble of ambitions. Every day, pray and read so that you might arm
yourself as a watchman, talk like a watchman, and act like a watchman.

Choosing to be a watchman for the Lord means choosing an often arduous and
disciplined life. You will not be popular. Those who shed light on sin seldom are.
You will not be rich. Your treasures will be laid up in heaven. But your witness
will be worth it, it will save lives.

Just make sure you are not like the businessman watchman who keeps office
hours and is always out at a long lunch. Be like the farmer watchman who
works alone long into the night to bring in the harvest while it is ripe.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a
harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9.
